March 25th

7:00p-9:00p
Dinner provided by Pictage!
Hey, all! I’m knee-deep in WPPI right now, but I wanted to block off March 25th for our next meeting. It’s the 4th Thursday in March, but I’ll need the time to decompress from WPPI.
I’m asking a few folks if they can speak, but WPPI has everyone messed up. It may just be us again! haha.
How does talking about backup/archive solutions sound? I know we’ve talked about that before, but a lot of people have questions about it.
Thoughts?
Kev

Let’s do an evening: 7:00p-10:00p
I’m working on getting a speaker… But let’s block the calendar off for that date!
Possible topic (if no speaker landed): looking at the new Aperture 3.0—is it ready for primetime now? How does it stack up to Lightroom 3.0?

NOTE: unless otherwise noted, we’ll be meeting at 11:30am at my house:
If Mike wants to do the nighttime shoot later that evening, we may do that, but I’ll talk with him about the details. I wanted to do an afternoon PUG instead of evening this time, since not everyone can make the night ones, and last time we were in the evening.

Mike Larson on Tour:
Mike will be meeting before hand in each city for breakfast or lunch to share his heart of where the industry is now, what trends are developing, what the future holds for successful photographers growing a business in todays economy. You are invited to come, hang out and participate in this dialogue and open conversation, as an intro the the Pictage sponsored evening!
Mike’s Bio: Developing his style from an editorial/catalogue photographer, and shooting surfing & lifestyle, Mike had the opportunity to work with multi million dollar ad campaigns which gave him a perspective on quality, mastering his craft, and real world marketing. Big clients such as Roxy, Bodyglove and Swell.com like these, don’t accept anything less than perfect. Shooting slides for immediate editorial demanded shooting right the 1st time. Traveling the Globe and getting things done required excellent management, and closing leads and maintaining excited clients became his number one job. in 2004 Mike jumped back into weddings with both feet and within 2 years had shot 80 weddings. His mindset to fast track and develop a big client base in 2 years paid off.
Now in the last 2 years Mike’s business has grown and so has his outlook on business & life. He has a team of 6 photographers who photograph 80+ weddings per year. Their volume has given them the freedom to grow and pursue exciting opportunities. His business has allowed him to travel the world. Using his business growth and buzz he built a brand new studio on the coast of California.
He maintains an amazingly blessed marriage with his sweet wife Rachel. Striving to always be learning, reading, sharing & encouraging others. He believes that one’s business should be a vehicle for a more abundant life. Have your business support your ideal lifestyle. Recently he has photographed weddings in Singapore, Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Hawaii & the West Indies as well as having a recent wedding published in InStyle Weddings and another upcoming feature on Style me Pretty.
“Business success & profits should be just scalable as your freedom in life”

Sorry, folks. Bob couldn’t make it.
But we have an amazing opportunity to hear from Gary Fong! This is a rare treat. Check out his many accomplishments here: http://www.garyfong.com/2.0/biography.html
He was one of the founders of Pictage, so this is a pretty sweet opportunity, even though it’s last minute!

I couldn’t get the speaker I wanted lined up for this night, sorry about that. The good news, though, is that Bob Davis has graciously committed to October’s meeting on 10/15! You won’t want to miss that. I’ll tell you more about Bob later…
Let’s talk software next meeting… Not just editing, but anything that helps us get our workflow managed. Bring laptops, bring questions. I’ll show my full array of tools and how I use them, but I’m expecting some of you to bring your favorite solutions and share with the group.
Afterwards, a few of us usually head over to the Blue Martini for an after-PUG drink/snack. Hope some of you can make that!
Looking forward to hanging with you. PS: Check out the new slideshow stuff Pictage added, it’s pretty cool…
Hey, PUG!
Good seeing you all last meeting. Thanks again to Janet.

Guest Speaker!
And, I’m excited to announce our guest speaker for the next meeting. Some of you may remember Greg Goelzer, who has been to some of our early PUGs. He’s a great photographer, but he’s an even better financial planner/advisor. He runs Goelzer Investment Management, downtown. Last year, I brought my accountant in for some Q/A, and I think a lot of people got something out of it. So, this year, I thought I’d bring a financial guru in and let you pepper him with questions about your savings.
Should you have an IRA; a SEP IRA?
Should you be investing in the stock market at all now?
Is gold better?
How do you set this stuff up if your self employed?
What kind of fees should you pay for different funds?
How much of your income should you put away?
How does it affect your taxes?
I realize we’re a photography group, but we’re also a small business group! So, I’m hopeful this will be relevant to you guys, and I know Greg knows his stuff!
